About Afghan Kush
Afghan Kush is as close to cannabis's wild origins as any commercially available strain. Native to the Hindu Kush mountain range that straddles the border between Afghanistan and Pakistan, it is one of the landraces from which virtually all modern indica hybrids ultimately descend. For thousands of years, the Kuchi people of the region have cultivated it for traditional hashish production — Afghan hash (referred to as "black hash" or "charras") is among the most historically significant cannabis products on Earth.
The aroma is deeply earthy and resinous — pine pitch, hashish, and a rich, almost petroleum-like quality that is immediately recognisable as indica landrace. Sweet notes of dried fruit and spice emerge in cured flowers. The resin quantity is extraordinary for the plant size, reflecting millennia of selection by hashish producers who prioritised resin yield above all else.
The effect is as old-fashioned as the genetics: heavy, deeply physical, and relentlessly sedating. There is little cerebral activity — a brief, warm mental comfort settles quickly into full-body relaxation and then into sedation. Afghan Kush is among the most effective natural sedatives available, making it invaluable for severe insomnia, chronic pain, and anxiety disorders. For recreational users, it is strictly an end-of-day strain.
As a grower's strain, Afghan Kush is nearly foolproof. It is short, compact, resistant to cold and mould, and flowers in just 7–8 weeks. Resin production is exceptional and makes it a natural choice for ice hash and bubble hash production.
