About Grape Ape
Grape Ape was developed by Apothecary Genetics in partnership with Barney's Farm in Amsterdam, using Mendocino Purps — one of California's most celebrated landrace-derived purple strains — crossed with Skunk #1 and an Afghani indica. The result is a strain whose appearance, aroma, and effect profile are all defined by its remarkable expression of purple anthocyanins and grape-derived terpenes.
At full maturity, Grape Ape buds are among the most visually arresting in any dispensary: deep purple, almost violet colouring throughout the flowers, with forest-green leaf tips, vivid orange pistils, and a heavy trichome frosting that gives the whole structure a jewelled appearance. When temperature drops below 15°C during the final weeks of flowering, the purple expression intensifies dramatically.
The aroma is precisely what the name promises — a candied grape sweetness reminiscent of grape-flavoured hard candy, with earthy, skunky undertones from the Skunk and Afghani contributions. The flavour on the palate is similarly grape-forward with a smooth, slightly spicy finish. The smoke is dense but surprisingly easy on the throat for its THC content.
Effects are strongly indica: profound physical relaxation sets in progressively over 20–30 minutes, easing muscle tension and joint discomfort. The cerebral component is pleasant but mild — a gentle mood elevation without significant mental stimulation. Grape Ape is best suited for evening use, chronic pain management, appetite stimulation, and insomnia. It is rarely associated with anxiety or paranoia, making it accessible to cannabis-sensitive users at lower doses.
Cultivation is rewarding. Plants are compact and easy to manage, with the purple colouring developing naturally in the final weeks if temperatures are allowed to drop slightly. Flowering completes in seven to eight weeks.
